Pic A Week #19 – Gillette Castle
Here we have the main living area of Gillette Castle [ct.gov | wikipedia] in East Haddam, CT. The detail of the wood in the ceilings, doors, even the light switches in this place is just incredible. Completed in 1919 the home has some unique properties (besides the clearly obvious of being a castle) such as William Gillette’s desk chair is on tracks with a built-in footrest so the chair and his feet would not scuff the floor and have you ever seen a home with it’s own fire hoses hanging on the wall?
Gillette Castle opens for the season on Memorial Day – so pack a picnic lunch and bring the family to take a tour of the castle or hike the trails around the park.
